This revolutionary studio clock delivers realtime format conversion between all digital formats, with Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) using Apogee’s C777 clock technology up to 192kHz and three-stage termination sensing for each word clock output. Providing incredible flexibility with available formats of AES, S/PDIF, Optical, six (6) Word Clock outs and an expansion slot of the X-Video option card, Big Ben will synchronize any studio and provide format conversion simultaneously. Big Ben will synchronize all digital equipment in the recording environment bringing clarity, depth and accuracy to recording and mixing that will be heard immediately. Supporting all sample rates and offering clocking technologies, “C777” and “Adaptive Loop Filtering” (ALF), Big Ben is the most stable, low jitter clock available. I just can’t use the digital out while slaving the QS8 to the BB via the QS8’s 48kHz In port.Īnyway, the hope of posting here was that someone might know, definitively, whether or not that was actually expecting Word Clock input, or something proprietary to Alesis.Big Ben, the worlds most revolutionary Master Clock, features Apogee’s legendary clocking technology and much more into one standalone unit. Now, if I do use the digital out, I can slave the BB to the 48kHz Internal clock of the QS8, and then basically run the QS8 as the master. All the docs only mention using that port if you have a BRC(Big Remote Control) connected to an ADAT machine - neither of which I have. The “right” cables and connectors don’t generate the expected outcome. This master clock operates at a whopping 192 kHz and has real-time format conversion for any digital format you're working with, 6 word clock outs, and even the option to connect to your gear using Firewire. Each feature of Big Ben has been carefully designed to ensure the highest quality, stability and simplicity when synchronizing your studio. Well, then you'll need the Apogee Big Ben. This is why I suspect it may not actually be Word Clock. Apogee Electronics’ Big Ben Master Digital Clock provides a complete clock synchronization solution for the digital production studio. With that cable plugged in to the 48kHz In port there will not be a sync light on the BB. does your church have a storage space filled. all the serious bidders are invited to bid for this apogee big ben.

I’ve tried cabling it up with and without a terminator. Apogee Big Ben C777 192kHz Master Word Clock. Doesn’t matter whether or not I use a terminator.

Just having fun playing around with stuff is the only ”reason” to do this…īy valid sync I mean that the BB sync light won’t come on. There may be better ways to solve this, like maybe setting the QS8 to 48kHz, Int and using a LightPipe connection, and then slave the Big Ben to the ADAT input, but I would love to get the "final word" on that 48kHz In port!

I've attached the manual page if it helps trigger anyone's memory. So while Word Clock uses the same BNC connection, and cable types, I can never get the Big Ben to show a valid sync when I connect it to the 48kHz in port on the QS8. Like you could sync all of your Alesis gear together when recording to an ADAT(conveniently also made by Alesis). I'm thinking these devices may have pre-dated the Word Clock standard, and that 48kHz in port isn't actually a Word Clock port, but is more of an Alesis-proprietary sync port. Interestingly the QS8 has a 48kHz In port on the back - which leads me to my question. Apogees BIG BEN is a stand-alone master clock, having the ability to bring amazing clarity and quality to your recordings while providing flexibility and. Big Ben will chime in with a visual indication of over or under termination on its digital display for each word clock output, allowing you to troubleshoot more quickly and get back to business. Very often in an elaborate audio chain word clock signals are improperly terminated. I do understand the need to digital sync once you enter that domain, and I do have an Apogee Big Ben for some other connected gear. Apogee helps you stop watching the clock with Big Ben's termination sensing ability. Never really messed with the digital out connections, but I've been playing around with the studio connections recently. At the heart of Big Ben, Apogee’s C777 Clock Technology uses Direct Digital Synthesis to generate ultra-stable clock frequencies whose jitter is virtually un-measurable regardless of the clock source. I have an Alesis QS8 that I've used for years. Apogee Electronics’ Big Ben Master Digital Clock provides a complete clock synchronization solution for the digital production studio. Here's a question for those of us old-timers.
